Cnine Neno, originally from Houma, Louisiana, now based in New Orleans, LA, and Houston, TX, derived his name from his first all-black 9mm gun marked “C-9mm.” With his real name being Cody, he coined the name “Cody 9” or “CNINE,” and “Neno” was added later on. Initially, Neno enjoyed listening to and rapping other artists’ music, but it wasn’t until an older cousin taught him to write bars that he began creating his own music.
After a few years of honing his skills, Neno teamed up with a friend to form the duo “HeRapsHeSings,” a group where one rapped and the other sang. They transitioned from performing for small audiences to larger crowds at events like SXSW, eventually headlining and doing paid shows and FM radio interviews. Despite their success, the duo split before releasing a significant project.
Now, Cnine Neno is making a comeback as a solo artist with a new brand, sound, and image. His style blends club and radio vibes, delivering hard-hitting punchlines while also simplifying his lyrics when needed. He has opened for several artists, including Trina, Johnny Blaze, Boosie, Mista Cain, Level, and Flight Boy from No Limits Records. Cnine Neno is a talented artist and performer, and he is definitely worth checking out.
