Fans of Lionel Richie were shocked to learn that he recently suffered health complications during a performance. And now, we know a little bit more about what caused it in the first place and how it’s going to affect the “All Night Long” singer moving forward.
If you missed it, fans first got wind that something happened to Richie after video footage of him performing for the opening night of his “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour went viral online. As we previously told you, he’s going to multiple cities across the nation with Earth, Wind & Fire.
At one point, he appeared to be singing just fine during the show in Minnesota before he eventually took a seat on one part of the stage. After being there for a split second, he tried to get up again and walk around, but unfortunately, he had to sit back down again.
“What I have learned about my years of being in the business. When you are feeling dizzy, sit your ass down. And when you are feeling strange about yourself, sit your ass down!” he told the crowd at one point.

Once the show took a bit of a break, his saxophonist came back out to let fans know that Richie wasn’t feeling well and would not be returning. According to TMZ, the legendary singer was later rushed to the hospital, not too long after that dizzy spell.
In a follow-up interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune, the drummer for EWF explained that Richie was “a little dehydrated,” but no additional details have been given about his condition.
What we do know, however, is that the “Zoom” singer won’t be performing for the two tour stops he had scheduled over the weekend, as his doctors have advised him to take it easy and focus on getting better. Live Nation informed concertgoers of the sad news in a statement released on Friday.
“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus,” the statement read. “He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30, for a show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”
The statement continued: “Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon.”
