Martha Stewart just shared a controversial opinion on Meghan Markle. But as we’ve seen, when any form of negativity is directed at the Duchess of Sussex, Black people on the internet stand up for her, and now, they’re calling Stewart out.
The famous homemaker recently shared her thoughts on Markle in a new interview with PEOPLE. During the conversation, the former TV host was asked her thoughts on Markle’s foray into the homemaking and cooking space, a lane Stewart has been occupying for decades. And it’s what the longtime lifestyle businesswoman said next that’s got people up in arms.
“If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there,” Stewart said.

Well, excuse us! We know the woman who started as a model and then a stockbroker before deciding to lean into her home decor and cooking skills isn’t talking. She should remember that when Markle’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” debuted in March 2025, it made the Global Top 10 list with 2.6 million views in its first week. And let’s not forget that her home product line, As Ever, sold out in under 30 minutes when it was initially launched in 2025. So, it seems to be “following” for consumers.
What’s more is that people, especially celebs, make career transitions all the time. As someone who built an empire and then had to figure out how to reclaim her fame and influence after a prison stint, you would think Stewart would have a little more understanding.
Given the shade laced within her words, it’s no wonder why both Black and white folks on social media came for Stewart once her interview began circulating.
“Why does Martha feel like she can have three different careers, but Meghan can’t? I mean, being an actress, yeah, that was her job. Being a princess, I don’t know if that necessarily was her job. But she was forced to quit her lifestyle brand that she had before she was married to Prince Harry. Her original lifestyle brand was a success. It was when influencers were becoming a thing; she was already successful doing that,” said TikTok user The Chicest Chicks. “She literally just went back to something she was clearly passionate about.”
“Martha, I need you to stop. I need you to cut it out ’cause you don’t need to be the pot calling the kettle at your big age,” said TikTok user Jewel. “Did you forget you got a lot of biography stuff out here? Aren’t you a model turned homemaker, turned homemaker guru, turned stockbroker, turned homemaker guru, turned felon, turned homemaker guru with a thug life sidekick [likely referring to Stewart’s friendship with rapper Snoop Dogg] that also sells perfumes and makes movie appearances? STOP!”
One other user noted, “Mind you, Martha Stewart stole B Smith and Lena Richards’ formula.”
Added another: Meghan truly lives in these people’s minds rent-free. Like, what was the reason? I guess she got the attention she [Stewart] was looking for. All Meghan has to do is exist.”
