Kadeem Hardison & Cree Summer
In a 2023 episode of TV One’s “Unsung,” “A Different World” star Kadeem Hardison recalled that he was “in love” with his costar Cree Summer when the show was on the air. He explained that he and Summers instantly connected after she was cast and began spending time together from day one. Eventually, their feelings grew deeper, and the pair quietly dated while the show went on. However, they decided to go their separate ways in 1992.

Kim Fields & John Henton
In one of the more surprising relationship reveals, Kim Fields and John Henton—the actors who played Regine and Overton on the 1993 sitcom “Living Single”—actually dated while filming the show. But unlike other costars, their love only lasted for a year (and one season of the series) before they decided to end things.
Trai Byers & Grace Gealy
Fans of “Empire” may or may not be shocked by the news that stars Trai Byers (who played the Lyon’s eldest son) and Grace Gealey (who played an evil woman who almost became his stepmother) fell in love while working on the set of the show. After meeting in March 2015, the two were engaged just four months later. In April 2016, they tied the knot and have since welcomed one son together.
Jasmine Guy & Dominic Hoffman
“A Different World” fans may remember Jasmine Guy’s character, Whitley Gilbert, dating Dominic Hoffman’s character, Julian Day. But they may not remember that the two were actually an item in real life. Interestingly enough, their real-life relationship hit a rough patch around the same time as their fictional one was. Ultimately, the two were together for nearly two years before calling it quits in 1989.
Erika Alexander & Richard Lyons
Now this one might be under wraps, but real “Living Single” fans will remember when Erika Alexander’s character, Maxine, began dating Michael Janson, played by Richard Lyons, in season two. But you may not remember that the two were a real-life couple at the time. So, if you were wondering why their onscreen kisses had a little extra “umph” to them, that’s why. The couple lasted for eight years before they decided to end things. In the years since, Alexander has only spoken positively about their past romance.
Keshia Knight-Pulliam & Brad James

Boris Kodjoe & Nicole Ari Parker
One of Hollywood’s most fun and longstanding couples, Boris Kodjoe and his wife, Nicole Ari Parker, initially met while filming the popular Showtime series “Soul Food,” where they played a couple. Although the two were in relationships at the time, sparks began to fly, and before too long, they developed into a full-blown relationship somewhere between 2001 and 2002. Omar Epps & Sanaa Lathan
Perhaps one of the more obvious pairings, given their chemistry in “Love & Basketball,” stars Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan were actually an item for two years. Having previously met while filming the 1999 film “The Wood,” the duo kept their relationship under wraps until they were cast as the leads in the classic sports romance. However, despite that film’s happy ending, Epps and Lathan’s real-life romance didn’t end in marriage and a baby for them. They have remained good friends since.
Viola Davis & Julius Tennon
While Viola Davis and hubby Julius Tennon may be known as one of the most successful Hollywood couples these days, you may have forgotten that their romance blossomed after they worked together. In fact, the two met on the set of the 1999 medical series “City of Angels,” and began dating about two months after. The rest, as they say in showbiz, is history!
Denzel & Pauletta Washington
Similar to Davis and Tennon, Denzel Washington and his wife, Pauletta, have long been considered #couplegoals in Hollywood. And though it seems we know a lot about their love story now, what some folks may not remember is that they met on the set of the 1977 film, “Wilma,” with Washington playing the co-lead role and his soon-to-be wife working as a background actress. After meeting again months after the film project wrapped (and after Pauletta helped him pay for a taxi ride home), the two ultimately began dating before tying the knot in June 1983.
