October 2026 marks two years since the announcement of the death of “Good Times” actor John Amos. But unfortunately for his family, the drama surrounding his passing has just been revived thanks to a new wrongful death lawsuit between his daughter Shannon and his son, Kelly “K.C.” Christopher.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Shannon recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her brother, accusing him and several people close to him of elder abuse, neglect, and exploiting her father in his final years. The legal battle centers on allegations that K.C. isolated his father from family and friends while taking control of his finances and medical decisions.
Now, Shannon wants the court to hold her brother accountable for what she claims happened before their father’s death in August 2024. The lawsuit also seeks to invalidate the “Good Times” actor’s current will, prevent K.C. from inheriting from his estate, and award unspecified damages.

Details of the suit argue that the late actor’s isolation began around 2019, when K.C. reportedly started moving his father between locations and monitoring his communications with other people. Shannon alleged that her brother manipulated their father into believing that other family members and longtime friends were trying to take advantage of him. This, in turn, left the actor increasingly dependent on K.C. for help.
The suit also described alleged unsafe living conditions that John was subjected to, including hotel rooms with trash and drug paraphernalia, and serious concerns about his medical care. One of the most disturbing claims includes allegations that the actor missed pertinent prostate cancer treatments and experienced serious health issues, like a foot infection that reportedly prompted Adult Protective Services to get involved.
What’s more, the complaint further alleges that the veteran actor also showed obvious signs of a medical emergency in August 2024. But he didn’t receive help until about 13 hours later, when he was taken to the hospital. Sadly, he would pass away a few hours after being admitted.

Additionally, money and control over John’s legacy are also at the center of Shannon and K.C.’s legal fight. When it comes to their father’s business interests, Shannon accused her brother in the suit of taking control of them, transferring funds to personal accounts, and gaining access to an estimated $6,300 monthly SAG-AFTRA pension and residual payments.
In the suit, Shannon also challenged the legal documents that allegedly gave K.C. a significant amount of authority over their father’s finances and estate as John’s health declined. It’s also interesting to note that Shannon claimed there was a previous version of the will that listed other beneficiaries.
However, it allegedly disappeared shortly after it was signed, raising further questions about how her father’s estate was handled. K.C., his father’s former caretaker Belinda Foster, longtime associate Eugene Brummett, and the production company Step and One Half Productions are among those named in the legal dispute, as Shannon and her legal team alleged they all “systematically” exploited, isolated, and neglected the “Good Times” star during his final years, “ultimately concealing the true circumstances surrounding his death.”
As we previously told you, the siblings had been going at each other since the news of the elder Amos’ declining health and allegations of elder abuse first made headlines back in June 2023. Things were further exacerbated when the Amos patriarch died in August 2024, and K.C. waited two months to reveal his passing to the world—and to his sister and the rest of the family in October.
In the immediate aftermath, there were more wild allegations that K.C. had deliberately withheld the news of his death, his death certificate, information on how he died, and cremated the veteran actor “to avoid any potential investigation into the conditions surrounding his final days.” The elder Amos had previously denied any abuse claims and said that any “story about neglect is false and unmerited.” Meanwhile, K.C. was also arrested at one point for allegedly sending his sister “threatening and ‘concerning’ texts.”
