Just when you thought things between Halle Berry and her ex-husband Olivier Martinez couldn’t get messier, it appears the opposite is true. And it’s all thanks to a new court filing that could cost her thousands of dollars. Let’s get into it.
According to new court documents obtained by TMZ, Martinez is looking to gain an additional $240,000 for the custody battle he just endured with Berry over their 13-year-old son, Maceo. He’s asking the judge to force Berry to pay him $176,522.58 in outstanding attorney fees, and another $63,477.42 for future legal expenses.
Martinez is making his case for the payments, arguing that his income is only a monthly average of $776.34 in residuals, while his monthly expenses are $17,555.99. Because of that, he claims he doesn’t have the means to pay his legal fees, according to TMZ.
However, his request is questionable because he was set to receive $8,000 a month in child support as part of his and Berry’s divorce proceedings. Martinez was also awarded 4.3 percent of any income the Oscar-winning actress earned above $2 million.
This news comes just one week after Berry and Martinez’s custody battle concluded. As we previously told you, the former couple spoke out following the judge’s decision to dissolve the temporary restraining order Martinez previously secured after accusing Berry of physically abusing their son, allegations the actress vehemently denied.
While Berry scored a legal win, the custody dispute isn’t completely behind them, as Martinez was granted primary physical custody of Maceo and Berry’s visitation remains limited to daytime hours on designated weekdays and alternating weekends. The former couple is also expected to participate in court-ordered joint therapy with their son as they continue working through their ongoing family dispute.
