It’s a rivalry as old as the universities themselves: Hampton University versus Howard University. If you ask Howard students, their school is the real HU, and of course Hampton folks say the same… but now, we’re putting the two historically Black universities up against each other for a fashion showdown!
Ahead of the fifth annual “Truth and Service” football game between the viral HUs on Sept. 20, The Root is taking a look at which university does it better. Howard or Hampton… And we’ll let you decide.
First Day on the Howard Yard
If it’s one thing to know about Howard students it’s that everyday is a fashion show on the Yard! These students put on their best outfits for the first day of school this year, and as you can expect… they’re not the only ones who rose to the occasion.

Last year’s Howard homecoming’s theme celebrated the 100-year anniversary of the annual event. This on top of the fact that former Vice President Kamala Harris– a HU graduate– was running for president made this arguably the best homecoming yet!

The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. wore custom jackets during last year’s homecoming. As you can tell, these women were not playing when it came down to their outfits! Each brought their own flare to the look.
