Paramount+ has released the official trailer and key art for the eighth and final season of The Chi, with the long-running drama set to return on May 22. Created by Lena Waithe, the Chicago-set series will close out its run with 10 episodes released weekly on Fridays through the Premium Plan tier of the streaming platform.

Since premiering in 2018, The Chi has followed interconnected lives on the South Side of Chicago, balancing family, ambition, survival, and community across multiple generations. Over the years, the series built a loyal audience while helping launch and expand the careers of several cast members, including Jacob Latimore, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Hannaha Hall, and Jason Weaver.

According to Paramount+, the final season places its characters in increasingly difficult situations as tensions rise during what is described as the harshest winter the neighborhood has faced yet. Questions surrounding loyalty, sacrifice, and legacy will be answered in the final episodes, with longtime relationships and conflicts reaching a breaking point.

Waithe also serves as executive producer through her Hillman Grad banner alongside co-showrunners Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronel. Common, Rick Famuyiwa, Aaron Kaplan, and several longtime collaborators also remain attached as executive producers.

Over eight seasons, The Chi evolved from a coming-of-age drama into one of television’s most recognizable portrayals of Black life in Chicago. Take a look at the trailer below.
