Best Gangsta Films You Need to Watch Right Now

Netflix’s hit crime drama “Nemesis” is one of the hottest things streaming right now. But since we’ve already watched all eight episodes of the first season, we started thinking about other gangster, mob-like films we love while we wait for word of Season 2.

From cult classics like “Pulp Fiction” and “American Gangster,” or non-traditional gems like “Paid in Full,” there’s no shortage of gangster movies out there that make us think we’d be about that life in another life.

So, if you’re picking up what we’re putting down and are looking for some things to binge-watch this Memorial Day weekend, keep reading for a slew of great gangster flick options!

“American Gangster”

One of the best gangster movies ever made, “American Gangster” is Denzel Washington at his best. This film is always gonna be that one for us!

“New Jack City”

Shoutout to Nino Brown, you gave us quite a story in “New Jack City.” This is definitely a cult classic!

“Pulp Fiction”

Yet another one of those films that’s full of quotable lines, we have Quentin Tarantino (and Samuel L. Jackson) to thank for all of the cussing in the crazy film that is “Pulp Fiction.”

“Paid In Full”

OK, so maybe this isn’t a gangster movie in the traditional sense. But you’ve got to admit, there was some level of organization in “Paid in Full” that other mobsters could rival!

“Training Day”

Yet another non-traditional, gangster movie, “Training Day” is arguably Denzel Washington at his most diabolical. Although “American Gangster” could make a good argument.

“Takers”

This is one of those movies that many people may not remember, but Idris Elba, Chris Brown, Tip ‘T.I.” Harris and Paul Walker made a fun little gangster movie back in 2010 with “Takers.” If you haven’t seen this one, give it a watch!

“A Bronx Tale”

OK, so this one isn’t a Black movie, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t include “A Bronx Tale” on a list of classic gangster movies.

“The Departed”

(Author’s note: This is arguably my favorite movie of all time. Like, seriously. Shoutout to Martin Scorsese, you really did your thing with this one.)

“Donnie Brasco”

Feel how you may about Johnny Depp now, but you have to admit that he did what he needed to do in “Donnie Brasco.” The tension, the stakes, the drama. This was a good film!

“Kill Bill”

Umm, who would we be if we didn’t include “Kill Bill” on here? Uma Thurman, as the former assassin “The Bride,” was definitely on her gangster stuff in this movie.

“Casino”

You know when Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are in a film, it’s gonna either be something gangster or something funny. Luckily for us, “Casino” is the first one.

“Goodfellas”

Ray Liotta (rest in peace) was so convincing in “Goodfellas,” we can’t help but love this film based on the life of real-life mobster Henry Hill.

“Reservoir Dogs”

Once again, Quentin Tarantino gave us yet another sly, bloody mob film full of all the favorite things we love. But be warned, this crime thriller isn’t for the weak!

“Scarface”

Whenever you have Al Pacino in a film, you already know there’s going to be some gangster stuff going on. And “Scarface” is definitely chock full of it. “Say hello to my little friend!”

“The Godfather 1&2”

Do we really have to explain this one? This was Marlon Brando at his finest!
