Lamar Odom has been making headlines lately for all the wrong reasons, thanks to his controversial Netflix documentary released in March and a DUI case from January 2026. Now, after months of bad press, he may have finally received a much-needed win.
According to the New York Post, the trouble started when the former Los Angeles Lakers player was pulled over by Nevada State police for speeding in January. Officers say Odom reportedly smelled of marijuana and failed a sobriety test, which ultimately led to an arrest and charges of driving under the influence and two other traffic violations.
This ordeal, while unfortunate, was likely the thing that led Odom to start a sobriety journey and enter a 30-day rehab program for marijuana. Near the end of March 2026, he revealed to USA Today that he was nearly 60 days sober and had not touched alcohol or marijuana since late January.

Still, this legal case hung over his head until a new ruling came on Friday. According to News 3 Las Vegas, Odom pleaded no contest to the DUI charge, and officials decided to drop the two traffic charges. The judge overseeing the case agreed to knock down the DUI charge to a reckless driving charge—if he meets a list of requirements and conditions for the next three months, which include paying a $1,000 fine, performing 67 hours of community service, participating in a victim impact panel, going to DUI school, and staying out of trouble.
Speaking to the outcome, Odom’s attorney Kevin Coburn told News 3, “I think it was a fair resolution given the facts of the case.”
If Odom doesn’t satisfy these requirements or “picks up a new DUI during this case, or is arrested or cited for Driving with a Suspended/Revoked License,” he could be convicted of a misdemeanor DUI charge and land himself in jail for 180 days.
