See Naomi Osaka’s Now-Viral Wimbledon Look That Has The Internet Buzzing

Throughout her career, tennis star Naomi Osaka has stunned fans with her performance on the court and her undeniable sense of style. This week was no exception when the 28-year-old arrived at the All England Club for her Wimbledon match in a look that has nearly broken the internet.

Tennis fans know that Wimbledon has long maintained a strict dress code, which requires players to wear white from head to toe (no ivory, cream, eggshell or alabaster allowed). While it’s easy to think that it would be nearly impossible to make a fashion statement when every color of the rainbow is off limits, Osaka managed to play by the rules and slay in an all-white floor-length kimono made by Japanese designer Hana Yagi, according to The Guardian.

Before you even think about questioning whether her outfit had any impact on her game, Osaka had no problem beating her first-round opponent, Elsa Jacquemot of France, in straight sets. When asked about her look, Osaka said she chose it as a way to pay homage to her Japanese heritage. Her father is Haitian, while her mother, Tamaki Osaka, is from Japan.

“In my head, when I think about that, I think about my cultures, my heritage, which is Japanese and Haitian. Then, if I dive deeper into like Japanese culture, I think about the most iconic silhouette, which for me is a kimono. You don’t have to see the color of a kimono to know that it is a kimono,” she said.

Osaka went on to say that her kimono was inspired by the all-white look Lucy Liu’s character wore in the cult classic film, “Kill Bill: Vol. 1.”

“It was like my interpretation of that while also paying a lot of respect and love to Japan,” she added.

Online, fans and critics alike had plenty to say about Osaka’s look. Many praised her for honoring her heritage in such an elegant way.

“Naomi Osaka walked into Wimbledon carrying both a tennis bag and generations of Japanese cultural elegance. Absolute slay,” wrote someone on X.

“I admire her confidence and self-esteem. People troll her, and that’s the best part—she keeps doing it for herself,” wrote someone else on X.

With more matches on the calendar, we can’t wait to see what Osaka wears next.
