Back in the day, graduation ceremonies were exactly what we expected them to be. Students slipped on their caps and gowns, walked across the stage, shook a few hands collected their diplomas and returned to their seats. While it was boring as all get-out, boring is exactly what we once expected from commencement. They were formal, quiet (shhh), predictable, and rooted in tradition. These days, graduates have other plans in mind, and folks can’t look away.

From party walks and dance routines to public protests and viral moments, commencement season has become one of the internet’s most reliable sources of chaos. Here are some of the wildest graduation antics we’ve seen so far in 2026.

Dance Celebrations Gone Wild

This Louisiana high school grad wasted no time using her commencement as a performance stage. She’s seen kicking off her shoes and getting busy, dancing so vigorously that sis made ABC 7 News. Entering college as a junior, she held back no punches.

Grads Gather for a Group Dance Number

Louisiana, we’re still looking at you. The jigg was on and popping for much of this commencement. Mind you, folks in the crowd were giving that same energy.

When Bussing it Wide Goes Wrong

This Chicago student utilized her commencement moment to buss it wide open into a split. That said, the consequences weren’t far behind.

The Chicago teen later circled back to social media to confirm that her school punished her celebration by withholding her diploma. The student, identified as Tiffany Campbell, claimed she’d boasted for weeks about the split she planned, but was shocked when she was denied.

As we continue to unpack wild grad antics, we could not leave the brawls off the list. At Ponitz high school, elbows were swinging and phones were recording, as two guests were seen beefing in the crowd.

Grads Make Political Statement

In Houston, one grad was set on making a political statement on stage in front of hundreds of guests. The UC Berkeley student had his diploma withheld until he dropped the Palestinian flag. He opted to walk away with his keffiyeh instead.  

This 40-Minute Protest to CUNY

In another attempt to make a political statement, CUNY students utilized their voices against graduation speaker Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who was the sole veto on three separate UN resolutions for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Honestly, this one kinda ate down. One student, reportedly out of the UK, stomped across the stage with a sign over her gown that read “I want a refund.”
