As election night approaches, The Root is making sure Black voters know what’s at stake. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, we’re partnering with “The People’s Election Night,” a four-hour live broadcast from 8 p.m. to midnight ET, bringing together some of the biggest voices in Black media, politics and culture as results roll in from across the country.
As part of the live show, The Root’s creator cohort will be reporting from Michigan, Georgia, Alabama and other states, taking viewers inside election-night watch parties and bringing reactions, interviews and perspectives from people closest to these races.
The broadcast, hosted from New York City, will feature Angela Rye, Bakari Sellers and Andrew Gillum of Native Land Pod alongside Charlamagne tha God, DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious and Loren LoRosa of The Breakfast Club. Viewers can also expect appearances from Fat Joe, NY Attorney General Letitia James and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, as well as other voices across journalism, advocacy and entertainment.
The Root joins media partners including iHeartMedia, Blavity, REVOLT and the Global Black Economic Forum.
Control of the U.S. House and Senate is on the line in the 2026 midterm elections. For Black voters, these outcomes could shape everything from voting rights and economic opportunity to education and the cost of living.
This moment is exactly why The Root has spent election season going beyond the headlines. We’ve been on the ground, asking the questions that matter to Black communities. Through our What’s Popular series, we’ve put a spotlight on the candidates, issues, and conversations driving this election. Our America Amended series has explored how the country’s history continues to shape the debates we’re having today.
