Chris Brown has a new reason to hope for strong sales from his joint R&B tour with Usher. Thanks to a verdict in a recent trial, the singer will be dishing out $13 million. But how he got there in the first place is just horrible.
If you somehow missed the news, let us get you up to speed. You see, over the last few weeks, Brown had been in court fighting off a lawsuit brought against him by one of his former housekeepers, Maria Avila.
In the suit, Avila alleged that in 2020, one of Brown’s dogs mauled her while she was working at his home and left her severely disfigured to the point that she could no longer maintain her job. To make matters worse, her injuries allegedly caused her to suffer from mobility issues, and Aliva also claimed that the “Back to Sleep” singer left the scene after she’d gotten injured and didn’t help her, per PEOPLE.
In his testimony, Brown did admit to being home when the dog attack took place, but that his shock over seeing Aliva’s injuries, all the blood, and his concerns for accidentally causing a “media circus” if he’d gotten the police involved kept him from intervening. So, under the advisement of his manager, the “Go Crazy” singer left the scene.’

However, as noted by Variety, Brown also alleged that he previously warned Aliva and her sister/fellow housekeeper about how “absolutely not friendly” his 200 lb. Caucasian shepherd dog (allegedly used for security purposes and not as a pet) could be.
Aliva and her sister pushed back on that narrative, citing language barriers that would prohibit them from fully understanding or a conversation of that nature from taking place. It’s also important to note here that Aliva gave her testimony fully in Spanish while an interpreter broke down everything.
After two weeks, a verdict was finally reached with Brown having to fork over $12.9 million to Avila for negligence, another $885,000 to her sister for emotional distress, and another $50,000 to Avila’s husband. Though Brown himself has yet to comment on the multi-million dollar loss, Aliva’s lawyers spke out and expressed gratitude in finally getting justice for their client.
“After more than five years of litigating against Chris Brown, we are thrilled that we were able to get justice for our client, Patricia. We are so happy for her and her family after everything they went through on that horrible day. It was an honor to represent her,” Aliva’s lawyers told Billboard.
So if you were still contemplating getting your tickets to see Breezy, you may want to go ahead and press “purchase.” It looks like he could use the extra coins right about now.
