From Luxury Honeymoon to Prison Cell: Inside the Downfall of LisaRaye’s Ex Michael Misick

Though actress LisaRaye McCoy and her ex-husband, former Chief Minister of Turks and Caicos, Michael Misick, have been over for 15 years now, he continues to make headlines. This time, Misick is unfortunately back in the news as he’s finally headed to prison over a true government scandal.

Now that McCoy has finally decided to share her two cents about the situation, let’s break down exactly how Misick went from being a cheating husband to a convicted felon.

Who Is Michael Misick?

Misick was born and raised in the Caicos. After graduating from a local high school, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Laws degree from a university in London. After working in the private sector for a while, he returned to Turks and Caicos, where he served as Minister of Tourism, Transportation and Communications in the early 1990s. By 2003, Misick was elected as the Chief Minister of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

When Did Michael and LisaRaye Get Involved?

As Misick was making his career ascent, he and McCoy were building their fast-moving relationship. After meeting at an award show in Atlanta in 2005, they said “I do” and walked down the aisle the following year in a lavish ceremony that included over 300 guests, a hand-sewn Swarovski crystal wedding gown, a huge diamond wedding ring, and more. Afterwards, the two set off across the world on their honeymoon, visiting Jerusalem, Bali and Dubai.

When Did the Cheating Start?

Despite the beauty and splendor of their wedding, their actual marriage would shortly prove that all that glitters isn’t gold. As we previously told you, McCoy shared in November 2024 that Misick cheated on her with her friend, Nicole Murphy. She explained that their friendship’s demise began after she checked the manifest of her private plane—which lists all staff and passengers—and saw that Murphy’s name was on it for a trip to Turks and Caicos. The gag? The two of them hadn’t taken a trip together.

McCoy then explained that she attempted to confront Murphy over the phone, who initially denied ever having been on the plane and hung up. Later, McCoy obtained video evidence of both Murphy and Misick pulling up together to the private plane airstrip and confronted them in person about it.

Misick and McCoy would later announce their divorce in 2008

When Did Michael Start Moving Sideways as President of Turks and Caicos?

While Misick was finalizing his divorce with McCoy, he came under fire for allegedly building a “multi-million dollar fortune” for himself and fellow ministers by “selling off Crown land to fund current investment,” according to local reports at the time. As suspicion of corruption continued to build, he stepped down from his position in 2009, though he denied any wrongdoing.

An official investigation was launched while Britain temporarily took control of the Turks and Caicos government, citing the corruption allegations. By June 2011, all of Misick’s assets were frozen. In December 2012, he was arrested in Brazil after his attempt at obtaining political asylum failed.

Two years later, he was officially charged with three counts of bribery and money laundering. Per 2 Hare Court, Missick’s case “concerned complex multinational company structures and hidden international banking transfers amounting to over $21 million.”

What Ultimately Happened in Misick’s Case?

In June 2026, Misick was officially convicted on the aforementioned charges along with the former Minister of Natural Resources, McAllister Hanchell and Misick’s own brother, Thomas Chalmers Misick.

According to ABC News, Misick was sentenced to four years and 26 days for his crimes.

How Does LisaRaye Feel About Her Ex-Husband Now?

McCoy has since spoken out about her ex, recently airing her thoughts in a new interview with Carlos King. Although the news of Misick’s conviction and prison sentence was disheartening, she’s making it clear that she had no clue about the dastardly deeds he was up to while they were in a relationship.

“Over the years they [the investigators] realized, even as his wife, that I didn’t have nothing to do with running the country,” McCoy explained. “He did take very good care of me financially, of course. He brought me over there to his country, but I had my things that I still left behind, which was my career.”

She later added: “However, under the jurisdiction of law where you supposed to be punished for anything unlawful—that is what it is.”
