These days, it is easy to feel like the world is on fire: all of our bills are too high, we’re at war with Iran, the government is…well, you know how stressful politics is right now. Our news cycle usually feels like one sad or depressing story after another. But, there is still an abundance of Black joy and Black excellence in our midst. Blessed to be a Blessing Sports broadcast journalist Taylor Rooks is giving back to her hometown in a major way. The Emmy-nominated media pro teamed up (no pun intended) with the non-profit organization Undue Medical Debt to abolish more than $2 million dollars in overdue medical expenses for residents of her cherished hometown of Gwinnett County, Georgia (just outside of Atlanta). This will undoubtedly impact the lives of many families in a positive way. Way to go, Taylor!

Black Teachers Matter A great teacher is worth their weight in gold. We’re proud to see that Leon Smith, a 25-year educator veteran was just named, Teacher of the Year. The Haverford, PA high school teacher confesses that during most of his career, he was the only Black teacher in the school building. We salute Leon who teaches U.S. History and African American Studies for his dedication to our youth.
